Sustainable living roofs for healthy, ecologically responsible buildings.
A roof garden or “green roof” is a flat or pitched roof surface that is planted using a growing medium over a waterproof membrane. Not only does a flourishing roof garden enhance the overall aesthetic, green roofs also improve a building’s environmental performance, thermal insulation and climate responsiveness.
Fytogreen have a proven track record in the industry, we have installed over 55,000 m2 of beautiful and sustainable rooftop gardens and supplied proprietary roof garden media components to 330,000m2 (approx) throughout Australia.
“We are interested in sustainability, we ensure the plants last their natural lifespan within challenging environments. All of our design and project management team are university graduated, and spend extensive time on research and development to ensure Fytogreen supply flourishing gardens that are perfectly suited to their various climatic conditions.”
Extensive and Semi-Extensive Roof Gardens
Extensive and semi-extensive roof gardens have a thin growing medium <200mm deep, planted with predominantly native vegetation.
Although Fytogreen installs sub-surface irrigation, typically our extensive roof gardens require minimal maintenance. Extensive roofs are light enough to be retrofitted to existing buildings where minimal upgrade to structural capabilities are required.
From the new residential home to greening a garage roof or home extension – all the way to an extensive roof on a large commercial building – extensive roof gardens are the latest in the sustainability tool kit for acoustic and temperature insulation, water management and aesthetic beauty.
We do not supply the waterproof membranes, however we have experience and connections to introduce the most suitable membrane systems.
Intensive Roof Gardens
Intensive roof gardens are typically heavier than extensive gardens, with a garden profile depth of 200-1500mm+ supporting substantial vegetation, shrubs and trees – a landscaped space for people to use for recreation, gardens or a natural habitat.
Intensive roof gardens need to be irrigated and maintained and, because people use the garden, the roof needs to be structurally load bearing.
Fytogreen assists landscape architects and garden designers and supplies components to landscape contractors for intensive roof gardens.
Sloped Roof Gardens
Fytogreen support the use of 'The Geoweb® Cellular Confinement System’s - this unique design provides resistance to sliding for thin soil veneers on steep slopes, which ultimately allows for the construction of a previously unfeasible, living green roof up to a 45° slope.
