Mirvac’s redevelopment of the ‘Bolte Recreational Facility’, along the Yarra’s Edge, combinds open space parkland, café and extensive turf.

Fytogreen utilized our lightweight Hydrocell 40 intensive soil system with a depth of 230mm and created a sloping grass area that extends up the edge of the Bolte Recreation building roof.

The roof slope is 8 degrees. Eureka turf was specified and supplied by Lilydale Instant Lawn.

One of Fytogreen’s first green facade installation,  a series of indoor / outdoor rooms with green facades used for smoking break out space and restaurant spaces at Crown Casino, Melbourne.  The facade is made up of 18 stands, each being 3 tiers high, located along the street level of the casino on Whiteman Street, Southbank.  Using a laser cut metal climbing frame and metal thin profile planter boxes Fytogreen designed an irrigation and drainage system to fit within the structures uprights. With a profile of only 250mm the green Ivy and Clivia plants are assisted with their growth with metal halide lights located below each tier of the planter-box.

After 3 years, the Ivy had filled out covering much of the climbing frame and the Clivia when in flower matches well the interior decorative lights.

Fytogreen was commissioned to install 22 Roto mould planter boxes to create a sky garden on level 31, of the 85 metre high Grocon apartment building, at the former Carlton United Brewery site on Swanston Street.

The planter boxes were designed to ensure drainage was direct to the storm-water outlets by passing the water proof membrane, thus penetrating the membrane mesh.  A total of 12 species were used to provide a mixture of colour and form. This is currently Fytogreen’s first installation at a height of level 31 and apart from the challenges involved in access it is a resounding success.

Collins Square – Tower Two

Greenery works continue on the monumental project; Collins Square, Australia’s largest CBD Commercial Project, home to the largest indoor green wall in Australia (installed on Tower Four).

Level 24 is an east facing breakout area that contains two large planter boxes. Fytogreen completed the installation just prior to handover, the tropical garden has established well.

Rising 18 levels next to Southern Cross train station this building is the first of its type in Victoria. Covered with green facades, green roofs and vertical gardens. The Medibank building will set a new benchmark on building green.  Fytogreen was contracted to provide research, develop the design and construct the green facades, green roofs and vertical gardens.

The green facades are made up of 520 planter boxes each pre built and pre grown at Fytogreen’s facility in Somerville then transported and craned into position from level 1 up to level 16. Each planter box has the dimensions of 600mm high x 600mm wide x 600mm deep. The bottom 1/3 of the climbing frame was attached to the planter box during pre growing and that then was attached to the rest of the climbing frame when the planter box was positioned on the building.

6 species of climbing vines were selected from our research plots, which include Trachelospernum jasminoides, Pandorea pandorana, Pandorea jasminoides, Muehlenbeckia adpressa, Muelenbeckia complexa and Hibbertia scandens. These were planted and pre grown for 3-6 months prior to installation.

The green facades will adorn 3 aspects of the Medibank Building and will need to survive challenging and wide range of conditions from level 1 up to level 16.

Williams Street, Melbourne

Fytogreen was selected to provide a green façade to adorn the front façade of the apartment development located at 350 Williams Street in Melbourne’s CBD.

The green facade is designed to screen the car park levels from Mezzanine to level 3 car park while providing a green aspect to the building’s front.

3 types of planters were used to accommodate the decorative ground covers and climbing vines. A total of 328 plants were used comprising 26 species made up of climbing vines and decorative native grasses.

All the planter boxes are controlled centrally using a computer control system that Fytogreen can access via the internet. Fytogreen also maintained the green façade during its first year after installation.

A series of 16 roof garden areas on the west, north and east facing facades of the 18 level building at 720 Bourke Street, Docklands.

Starting on level 2 these roof gardens are scattered over most levels up to level 16 of the building. Ranging in size from 9m2 up to 400m2 with a profile of 600mm depth profile to accommodate ground covers and advanced trees.

All these gardens will need to tolerate high winds and challenging temperatures.

Fytogreen also provided 520 pre-grown green facade planters and 400m2 of vertical gardens on the medibank building.

Medibank Docklands – Fytowall

Medibank are the primary tenant for the new 720 Bourke Street development in Melbourne, Docklands.

Medibank’s senior manager asked for a building with significant foliage adorning the facades of the building.

The Architect, Hassell, developed the concept of 2 x 200m2 vertical gardens flanking the 720 Bourke Street entrance on the south east of the building.

Fytogreen’s botanist used 72 species and 11,600 plants to create this design. Fytogreen pre-grew this vertical garden in 5 months in shade houses prior to installation.

This south east facing wall only gets a small amount of early morning sun and the rest of the day it’s in shade.

Fytogreen also provided 520 pre-grown green facade planters and 16 roof gardens, spread over 16 levels.

Medibank Thrive – Florafelt

A unique, lush, small greenwall design, located at the front entrance of the Medibank retail shop in Melbourne, comprising 2 sections of greenwall with wooden paneling intertwined within the foliage.

The natural light levels are supported by metal halide growing lamps to enable the low light tolerant plant species used to survive all year around.

A total of 360 plants and 11 different species were used to provide an organic green vista from outside the shop entrance and through the shop entrance doorway.

Goodlife Gym – Florafelt

Goodlife Docklands, located on the Etihad Stadium Concourse within the Medibank Building, has been designed with high-end finishes complimented with a luscious 4.5m2 (square metre) green wall.

As you enter the health club, this internal green wall provides an organic element in a built up area. 12 species make up the plant pallet of this Florafelt greenwall using 108 plants.
