Located high above Melbourne's CBD, the Flinders Gate Roof Garden demonstrates how diverse planting can deliver long-term greening outcomes within a shallow profile rooftop system.
Designed, installed and maintained by Fytogreen, the 108m² roof garden features 792 plants across 17 species within a 180mm profile depth. A carefully selected mix of grasses, shrubs and flowering species provides year-round texture and seasonal interest while supporting urban biodiversity in an exposed rooftop environment.
The roof garden forms part of the broader greening strategy delivered by Fytogreen throughout Flinders Gate. In addition to the rooftop landscape, Fytogreen supplied and installed extensive internal and external planter box systems, introducing greenery throughout the workplace and creating a strong connection between the building's interior spaces and outdoor landscapes.
The images, taken in early 2026, show the green roof well established; it continues to soften the surrounding built environment while contributing valuable habitat opportunities within Melbourne's city centre. The project showcases the long-term performance of biodiverse rooftop planting and highlights the role roof gardens can play in creating greener, healthier urban environments.
