Local bird life loving their new safe floating wetlands refuge

In the heart of Victoria Parklands in Herston, QLD, City Parkland Services, has introduced two floating wetland modules, each measuring 2m wide, 2.15m high, and 140mm deep, covering a total area of 8.6m2.

These modules, home to four species and a total of 60 plants, were supplied by Fytogreen and planted by a local school environmental group during August 2023. Images shown were taken 11 months on in July 2024 and showcase the thriving plant life and the ducks that have made these wetlands their habitat

The transformation of Victoria Park is part of a larger plan to enhances the park’s natural beauty,  but also promotes biodiversity and these modules have provided a unique educational opportunity for local students.  The floating wetlands are a testament to the power of community involvement and innovative environmental solutions.

They stand as lush, green islands on the water, offering a sanctuary for local wildlife, including ducks, and a serene view for park visitors.   This project is a shining example of how we can work together to create sustainable and beautiful urban spaces.
