EXTERNAL VERTICAL GARDEN - 162M2
LOCATION - Victoria Harbour, Docklands, Melbourne
PROJECT BUILDER - Lendlease
CLIENT - ANZ Bank
ARCHITECT - Hassell
DESIGN & INSTALL - Fytogreen
COMPLETION - 2009
Outdoor North East facing vertical garden, fringing the façade from levels 1-3. Sedges, succulents and ground covers are used to create a “patchwork” look to the vertical garden.
This thin band of vertical garden stretches along the North East facade of the building on the service lane facing the Docklands Park. Part of the vertical garden also faces the building on the reverse side on the level 3 balcony. 12 plant species and around 4860 plants were used.
The vertical garden is off-set from the host wall leaving a 40mm gap. The air in this gap is 9-10 degrees cooler on 30 degree plus days. The shape of the vertical garden allows this cooler air to passively feed into the air conditioning intake, thus saving energy costs for running the air conditioning system.
